Junior Roney Sheumaker warming up for the high hurdles at Wentworth Military Academy. Coach Bill Newland (We called him "Wild Bill" and awarded him with a cowboy hat during the track banquet that year. Junior Rodney Sheumaker Sophomore Greg Carpenter finishes behind Dan Lavitt from Ray-South in the 60 yd dash. This time Greg Carpenter breaks the tape first. Junior Howard Baker leans for the finish line. Phil Lees clears an absurdly low height with form not to be envied. Howard Baker in the 60 low hurdles David Howe hits the board in the long jump. The pit at Wentworth Military Academy, where most of the indoor meets were held, was filled with sawdust instead of sand, and often contained bits of debris and glass. Everybody got cut or scraped who ever jumped there. Mike Armstrong Senior Phil Lees Senior Mike (Buck) Armstrong Junior Kevin McPeck runs the curve at Wentworth. The track was slippery, had no slope, and was partly under the viewing stands. It was like having a track meet in somebody's basement. When you sprinted under this section of the stands the lights would strobe and you felt like you were running in movie chase scene. Senior Greg Loftin Junior Rodney Sheumaker in the high hurdles
